Jujitsu White Belt
For a second semester of physical education at the University of Kentucky during the 1962-63 school year, I had half a semester each of Archery and Sport Judo. I was already an amateur Archer (and got an "A" in that class), but I approached Sport Judo as a complete beginner: I was a "white belt." On the positive side, the class did provide a little background for my years-later role of Stuntman Trainee and, on the negative side, during one practice I either broke or dislocated the big toe of my right foot. (I was pulled forward so that my toe snagged the mat and caught all my weight on it. It remains stiff to this day.) Classes were held in the Buell Armory, shown here.
