Stage Magician
On moving to Toronto in 1968 I renewed my childhood interest in conjuring, beginning my career as a magic pitchman in the carnival at the Canadian national Exhibition the following year. For each of the next three years (1970, 1971, 1972) I was Resident Magician at the Houdini Hall of Fame in Niagara Falls, Ontario, during the summers; the rest of the year I was on the school circuit as Janus the Magician or (later) Mister Twister the Magic Clown or Mendell the Mentalist (see also Escape Artist; Magic Clown; Magic Pitchman; Mentalist). I did my last shows as a full-time professional in 1973 as I began work as a Private Investigator.
