I began as a member of International Toastmasters when we had a group (since defunct) at the Center for Inquiry -- Transnational headquarters at Amherst, New York. I later transferred to Grand Pioneer Toastmasters of Buffalo and, having completed the requisite talks, received a certificate, as shown here along with several "best" ribbons. (Unfortunately, my giving outside lectures to groups such as the National Institute for Standards and Technology, along with other work, severely curtailed my ability to attend club meetings.) I have over the years often served as a small-T toastmaster, presiding at an event to introduce a speaker, propose a toast, etc. The photo shows me speaking to the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow (see Lecturer and Master of Ceremonies.)
