Historical Illustrator

As well as being a Graphic Artist whose work includes being a Map Illustrator and Forensic Illustrator, I also produce drawings intended to show some historical event, place, or person—often using art to reconstruct an image that is otherwise lost. Shown is my recreated appearance of the first papermill west of the Alleghenies. The other example is a pen-and-ink recreation of an event for which apparently no photo exists: the 1911 Main Street fire in West Liberty, Ky. This was made by copying an earlier daytime photo of the street, then using a newspaper story of the fire to convert the drawing into the nighttime fire scene. (This illustrated my "Historical Sketches: Fire of 1911," Licking Valley Courier, December 22, 1994.)
